We left Asheville Sunday morning and drove to Louisville, Kentucky. We were stuck on the Interstate six miles into Kentucky because a wreck had blocked both sides of the Interstate. We sat still in the heat for about an hour. After we finally started moving we discovered we were almost to Corbin, Kentucky. This is the home of Colonel Sanders first restaurant. We stopped for lunch and checked it out. After that we drove on into Louisville and got set up just before it started raining. We actually stayed on the Indiana side of the Ohio river, but were just across the bridge from downtown and the attractions. Since it was raining Greerson wanted to stay in so we cooked homemade pizza in the camper and watched Forest Gump. Monday morning we headed to Churchill Downs and checked out the race horses in training. After that it was time to go to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Greerson got a personalized bat and we all three got miniature bats on the factory tour. It was really interesting watching them make the bats. We packed up the camper and headed west to Squire Boone's Cavern in Indiana, this was not the most exciting thing we ever did, but we did get some rocks at really good prices. After checking it out we headed to Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. About thirty minutes before stopping for the night we found a Zaxby's Chicken and stopped for dinner. We had discovered Zaxbys on our Atlanta trip several years ago. We settled into the KOA in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee and Christa went to bed, Greerson played computer games and Daryl watched the Lucy Show. Tuesday morning we went to Loretta Lynn's Ranch. She has created a replica of her Butcher Holler house and a coal mine. We toured that then went to her house. It was a revelation to us that the Crisco commercials were actually shot in her kitchen there. She was at home when we were there, but we didn't see her. She built a new house right behind the old one. Daryl got directions from her daughter Cissy when we got there, but didn't realize that was who it was until we got to the museum later. After purchasing her new book (autographed) we headed to Texas. We arrived about 7:30 and headed straight to The Texas Roadhouse for a good steak and some ribs. We sure did miss Texas style cooking, We set up camp but left the camper connected to the truck so we could make a quick getaway the next morning. In fact Wednesday morning we got up at 5am and left by 6. We were ready to be home. Greerson had been gone for a month. We pulled into Waco about 10:30 am and spent the rest of the day unpacking and washing clothes.
