We headed to Alaska July 18. Woody, Glynda and Tyler met us about 9am and we headed to the DFW Airport. We got checked in ate lunch and boarded a plane to Seattle. We had a five hour layover at SeaTac Airport. We finally arrive in Anchorage about 10:30pm. The strange thing was that it was daylight. In fact even though the sun set, it still remained light all night long. The next morning we got up early and got our passes for the train to Seward. The train ride was great we were in an observation car seated four to a table. They served us lunch and beverages while we were onboard. We saw a couple of moose and some eagles. We also saw several glaciers and some great scenery. The train deposited us right at our cruise ship, the Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas. We got settled into our stateroom then headed to dinner before the muster drill. Our staterooms were very nice with a living room that was separated from the bedroom with a drapery. They were about the size of a regular hotel room. We also had a balcony. Both of our staterooms were connected with a door between them. Greerson and Tyler stayed with Mimi and Grandpa Woody. The first full day on the ship was at sea. We had a good time checking out the ship and getting settled in. The second day was supposed to be Hubbard Glacier, but the fog was so thick we couldn't get close to it. The next day we were in Juneau. We toured the town and Greerson found a Dr Pepper. He was so excited, he hadn't had one since we left Texas. We cruised to Skagway the following day. We found a family owned shop called North to Alaska where we purchased Ulu knives and they shipped them home for us since we couldn't have them on the ship. The next day we went to Icy Point Strait and the small town of Hoonah. It was an old salmon cannery that they had turned into a museum. We had a bear watching excursion here. It was so cool to actually be out in the Alaska wilderness and see all of the foliage up close. We didn't see a bear, but the scenery was worth the trip. The next day we were in Ketchikan, the salmon capital of the World. I believe it, we went fishing and caught 80lbs of salmon. 29 fish all together. We had a great time! After fishing we ate at a local restaurant and had crab, chicken and steak. The next day we spent cruising and arrived then arrived at the port of Vancouver. after we disembarked we got in a limo and headed to Seattle. The border took a long time, but was really pretty with a nice park. We got tot the airport and checked in then began the wait. Our plane didn't depart until 11:50pm. We arrived in Dallas about 5:30am. It was a great trip, but we are glad to be home.
