David's Mausoleum
We headed up to Conway, Arkansas Tuesday evening just behind huge thunderstorms. We were fortunate not to have any rain until we reached Arkansas and it was all light rain. We got there after midnight. We enjoyed seeing all of the family while we prepared for the memorial service. Caleb gave us a concert on his cello. We also got to watch some of the Worley home movies. Sheryl and Bob got there the same time we did and Steve came on Wednesday. It was different not having David there to visit with, but we are just going to have to get used to that. We had more food than we knew what to do with. The friends and coworkers were so nice bringing food and all sorts of stuff for us while we were there. I was emotionally pretty good until I got the the visitation and the room was very crowded and the first arrangement I saw was from our Bible Study group at church. That turned on my emotions and I was emotional the rest of the night while about one hundred people filed by introducing themselves. The big problem with that is that I can't speak when I am overcome with emotion so I just had to nod my head at them. The funeral home looked like the inside of the haunted mansion at Disneyland. The workers there could have easily gotten a job with the Adams family (1960s tv family for those of you too young to remember). We had one Galloway cousin come from Wichita Falls (Tanya Johnson). It was so good to see her and her grand daughter Peyton. We all got to visit with a lot of people we hadn't seen in a while. We had the service on Friday and it was really nice. Todd and Angie and Caleb sang, Sheryl played the keyboard and piano and Daryl played the keyboard, then Steve spoke at the very end of the service. At the graveyard Daryl was thanked for his heartelt speech at the funeral. He graciously thanked them. Later he was thanked again at the church. We all found it funny that Daryl and Steve were confusing to people. They look similar, but Steve has hair and Daryl is shaved completely bald. David got the last word at the graveside service. The bagpipe player had just walked away playing Amazing Grace and they brought the casket down to the masuoleum for entombment. They carefully slid the casket in and placed their flowers with it. Then suddenly the funeral director came over to Rox. "We have a problem", he said quietly. Aaron thought to himself,"I know the right body was in there I checked". Apparently they put David in backwards, which is important since Rox will be placed there later. So they had to take him out and turn him around. It was really quite humorous and the family all chuckled. This really helped to lighten the mood after the services. Saturday we stopped by to pick the flowers for our memorial candles and then headed to Little Rock for some shopping therapy. The Cate kids got build a bears, Sheryl got new clothes at Dillards and we all got to go to Red Lobster for dinner. We packed up and headed home on Sunday realizing that it wasn't January anymore it was already February 3.
