We headed south to Corpus Christi for a few days in July to enjoy the beach and relax. We started out at Mustang Island State Park and enjoyed the sea breeze and the water. The next day we headed to the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington. We had a great time and enjoyed the cool temperatures in the low 90s. We went fishing on a charter boat about 12 miles out in the gulf, but didn't catch anything. We were with about 30 other fishermen and didn't catch anything. We ended up fishing at the National Seashore on Padre Island and enjoyed playing in the surf. It a nice break with great weather. We went shopping on the way down and got a new power washer to play with when we got home. We bought clothes and shoes and some kitchen gadgets at the outlets in San Marcos. This was our summer vacation this year since Greerson spent most of his vacation time at Boy Scout camps (Philmont and Northern Tier). Christa wanted a staycation this year so Corpus was the compromise we came up with. Most people have a staycation at home, we do it within the state of Texas!

In April Troop 377 went to Fredricksburg to see the Museum of the South Pacific's demonstration of weapons from the War. We stayed at the local KOA in the camper and met the Scouts the next day for the demonstration. The wildflowers were in bloom and it was absolutely beautiful.

In May we went to the ranch for Shanda's birthday and brought the canoe and our huge tent we call the Taj Mahal. Marshall thought it was great to go camping. Greerson took the canoe out at Hilltop to practice for his canoe trip to Minnesota later in July. The Greer reunion was held at Hilltop Lakes in June and we enjoyed visiting over lunch and participating in the auction to raise money for the Greer cemetery. Christa bought a bench for our backyard and a big ceramic pot. Daryl ate a cornbread salad that was awesome and set out to find the recipe, but no one seemed to know who had brought it. Eventually he discovered the cook and got the recipe. It was a hit at the Worley reunion July 4th. The salad is made with crumbled cornbread, cheddar cheese, pinto beans, corn and a sour cream based ranch dressing. After the reunion we headed back across the street to the ranch and played Mexican Train.
