Different views of Baylor's new McLane Stadium. We have enjoyed the new view!

We have been really busy this Fall. Daryl started back to school at Liberty University working on his Doctorate. Greerson is marching with the high school band. It appears that all we did was go to Baylor football, but that was a big deal since they have the new stadium this year. We have season tickets again and really enjoy going to the games. Daryl's niece Robin Young got married in October at a beautiful wedding at a ranch near Austin. Greerson's band advanced to the Area marching contest in San Antonio in October so between the wedding and Baylor football and Band we have been actively engaged every weekend.

Opening of Mclane Stadium at Baylor University

We headed out to Baylor to witness the inaugural game at the new McLane Stadium at Baylor University. It was an amazing experience. Our parking lot was at the Ferrell Center so we walked along the river to the stadium. It is amazing how they have cleaned up the river and made such a beautiful walkway. Christa took a picture of Greerson and Daryl across the river from the stadium as we walked along the river. After we crossed the river on the pedestrian bridge we ran into Daryl's cousin Cathy Reynolds and her husband. They had come down for the game. Their son is at Baylor this Fall. We were a little early and it was incredibly hot so we found a spot in the shade and enjoyed the view of the sailgaters. Once we were inside the stadium it was amazing! There were concession stands for each section and video monitors so you don't miss the game action while your in line for food. Before the game began there were several awesome moments. The presentation of the new HD video board was awesome. They showed a history of Baylor Football just before the players took the field running between the Baylor Line and under and arch of fire. The Baylor Line looked huge coming into the stadium. The Band was absolutely amazing. They performed part of the show that was performed at the opening game of Floyd Casey Stadium. The most amazing moment was when it came time for the coin toss and President George W. Bush actually tossed the coin. It was a most memorable time. The best part was that Baylor won by a large margin.

Back to School

August was an extremely busy month. Greerson was in Minnesota for two weeks at the end of July and came back on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning summer band started. Daryl's textbook that he wrote last spring came of the presses August 15 in time to be used this Fall.  August 18 Daryl started back to school to earn his doctorate. He is attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. August 26 Greerson started his Sophomore year at Midway High School and Daryl returned to work at Navarro College and Texas A & M University-Commerce. We all enjoyed the first football game with a trip on a yellow school bus to Austin to play the Lake Travis Cavaliers. Christa and Daryl were chaperones for the band. The football team won the game and the band presented a great performance. The only complaint was we didn't get home until after 2am!

We headed south to Corpus Christi for a few days in July to enjoy the beach and relax. We started out at Mustang Island State Park and enjoyed the sea breeze and the water. The next day we headed to the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington. We had a great time and enjoyed the cool temperatures in the low 90s. We went fishing on a charter boat about 12 miles out in the gulf, but didn't catch anything. We were with about 30 other fishermen and didn't catch anything. We ended up fishing at the National Seashore on Padre Island and enjoyed playing in the surf. It a nice break with great weather. We went shopping on the way down and got a new power washer to play with when we got home. We bought clothes and shoes and some kitchen gadgets at the outlets in San Marcos. This was our summer vacation this year since Greerson spent most of his vacation time at Boy Scout camps (Philmont and Northern Tier). Christa wanted a staycation this year so Corpus was the compromise we came up with. Most people have a staycation at home, we do it within the state of Texas!
