Christa's Grandmother (Grandma Pat) passed away this afternoon. She was 92 and lived a good life. We will miss her greatly. When we were first married we used to take Grandma Pat and her friend Jerry Morris on shopping trips to New Braunfels and San Marcos. They didn't stop talking from the moment we got into the car. We always took Grandma Pat's car, a Ford Crown Victoria, actually the truth is that we needed her car to hold all of the shopping bags when the day was done. We would end the day at the Smokehouse in New Braunfels and rush home to check on Grandma Pat's sister Bede who lived with her, but was bed ridden. Grandma Pat had all kinds of robbery stories from their jewelry store in Houston, but I think some of my favorite stories were of her own mother and how she helped people in need and how Grandma Pat was so terrified of the cows and other animals. Grandma Pat was a true story teller and loved to be the center of attention. As the years passed by she became legally blind, but that didn't stop her she still participated in family events and everyone loved Christmas at Grandma Pats. We always met the Sunday before Christmas and all of the family would be there and share a great meal and then the kids would get to open their presents. Grandma Pat delighted in watching her grandchildren and particularly loved to pass out her special envelopes. Her envelopes helped us through many a rough spot the first few years of our marriage. Another great story Grandma Pat loved to tell was of the alligator in her tank. She would tell everyone that the game warden said it was a $10,000 fine to kill the alligator and she was willing to pay it to get rid of it. It took six men to haul the alligator off, but you know I don't think anyone had the guts to charge her for killing it. Even though we will miss her greatly I know that she is having a great time with her family and her husband Woody who died in 1978.
